Given the increased time commitment and responsibilities for these directors, many of the Top 100 Companies have elected to pay enhanced fees to these directors and, in many circumstances, where additional fees are already paid to those in these roles, are increasing those fees. Lead Director Retainers Forty-one of the Top 100 Companies pay an additional retainer to the lead director, compared with 55 of the Top 100 Companies surveyed in 2009 and 31 in 2007.
